We believe that every aspect of a wedding provides an opportunity to celebrate your personal love story, and wedding cakes have become a popular way to do so. With this in mind, we have guest blogger, Serena from Cobi & Coco, who specialises in bespoke wedding cakes that are designed with you in mind. Here she discusses her 5 top tips to ensure your cake looks as good as it tastes.
Time
Book as early as you can to avoid disappointment. On average, most couples start their planning about a year in advance, so it’s a good idea to book as early as possible in the planning process, no later than 6 months.
Set a realistic budget
The thing about wedding cake prices is that they vary greatly depending on the type of bake you want. It’s not just about the size, though that does play a role; the style and finish can also have an impact on the price. Your cake maker’s experience and reputation may also influence the cost. As a result, always inform your baker of your budget ahead of time.
Consider the size
What good is a beautifully decorated cake if it can’t feed everyone? Make sure you have enough cake for everyone. Your baker will be able to show you the appropriate size of cake based on the number of guests at the wedding.
The right taste
Aside from the appearance of the cake, keep in mind that cakes are primarily intended for eating. They should taste good as well as look good. The texture and flavour of the cake itself are crucial. Don’t hesitate to ask for cake samples of the flavours you want, so you can be sure that it is to your liking.
Whether the weather
Consider the weather and climate of your wedding as you narrow down your options. You might be tempted by a buttercream wedding cake. They do not, however, hold up well outside, so you might want to consider a sugar paste covered wedding cake instead. Your baker will be able to explain all of the appropriate styles for your wedding.
What to expect from Cobi & Coco.
“Each wedding cake design is designed bespoke for you as a couple. I get to understand each couple’s wedding style, their colours and flowers that they have chosen for their special day. I get to know their personalities, what they like and don’t like. With this insight, I would interject my knowledge and trends to design them a cake that reflects them, bringing in their flowers, colours, and style so that it’s their bespoke design, but is also contemporary and reflects me as a Designer. I like to incorporate my style which is fashion and trend led specialising in sugar flowers as the main source of decorations. The key thing is don’t be afraid to be adventurous with your designs, allow your personality to be expressed through your wedding cake.“
