Do you have any broken jewellery that needs a new clasp? Did you know that because we have an onsite workshop, we can normally fix them within an hour (as long as we have the correct clasp in stock).
Many people think that they have to stick to the clasp style that has broken on their piece of jewellery, but this is not the case. There are so many options available. However, the best decision should be based on three primary factors: size/weight, price, and aesthetics, so here’s a rundown of some of the most common varieties of jewellery clasps.
Bolt rings
Bolt rings are a popular choice for clasps since they are a sturdy and safe way to close a necklace or bracelet. They have a circular shape with a little opening and closing lever on the side.
Lobster clasps
A lobster clasp is another popular option that works similarly to a bolt ring but gets its name from its resemblance to a lobster claw. It is held closed by a spring and a tiny lever is used to open or close the lobster clasp. They are more durable than a bolt ring and are a good choice if your design is heavier and requires additional support.
Toggle clasps
A toggle clasp is ideal if you want to add an extra design element as they add a polished and professional touch to your piece of jewellery and can support heavy designs. It is made up of two parts: a component with an open centre and a bar that connects to fasten the necklace or bracelet. These are very popular because they are very simple to use.
Hook and eye clasps
A hook clasp is a simple and classic style of clasp, with a hook on one side of the chain and a ring on the other. Hooks can be basic, but if you want a clasp with extra dazzle you can definitely find an S hook that brings it. These are not as secure as a lot of other clasps as there is no fastening.
Magnetic clasps
Very powerful magnets hold magnetic clasps together. They are simple to connect because the magnets are attracted to one another, but they are difficult to separate since the magnets are so powerful. This ensures that your designs are beautiful, functional, and secure. They are appropriate for customers who may struggle to open and close certain clasps.
Slide clasps
A slide clasp is made up of two metal tubes, one of which slides within the other and clicks into place to secure the clasp. They come in a variety of sizes.
Barrel clasps
Screw fasteners, also known as barrel clasps, provide a clean, minimal, and secure way to secure your design. They are typically seen on necklaces as they require two hands to open and close.
Bayonet clasps
Bayonet Clasps are made up of two sections of tube that connect with a simple ‘push and twist’ motion, offering a sturdy and secure fastening mechanism that is appropriate for light to medium weight pieces of jewellery.
We have touched on the most popular clasps choices available, however, Custom & Co Jewellery can provide any fastenings and fixings in a number of sizes and metals.
