Not all dresses suit everyone. You are unique, and your dress should compliment you and your shape. From glamorous fishtails to romantic ball gown styles, we have been chatting to our friend Victoria of Victoria Elaine Bridal to uncover her top tips so that you can find the perfect wedding gown.
Creating a realistic budget for a dress before you go dress shopping ensures that you will not fall in love with a dress only to discover that it is way out of your price range. Before you begin, let the bridal boutique know what your budget is and whether this is solely for the dress, or should include accessories and alterations. They will be able to work with you to find the style you want while staying within your budget.
We would advise you have your dress ordered a minimum of 12 months before your wedding date, or even longer than that if you can. Dresses can take 6-9 months to be hand made, but with the pandemic and ongoing, global shipping delays and alterations to consider, the more time you have between point of order and the wedding, the better. If you have less time than this until your wedding day, speak to your boutique about off-the-peg options.
The first step in finding the perfect wedding dress is determining the best dress shape for your body type. You may have a style in mind, but experiment with different styles to see what works best for your figure. Frequently, a bride’s dream dress is not the style she began looking for. The dress assistant will be able to advise you on which styles will look best on your body type.
When shopping for gowns, keep the venue and theme in mind. The last thing you want is for your wedding gown to clash with the rest of your ensemble. A large, heavy ball gown may be inappropriate for a beach wedding.
Keep your entourage to a minimum.
Think carefully about how many people you plan to take shopping with you. One or two people who you can trust and will give you honest feedback is enough, as conflicting opinions will make you second guess yourself. It is also fun to keep it a surprise for as many people as possible on the wedding day.
This satin, timeless ball gown would be perfect for a bride looking for a more classic wedding dress, no matter which season they are getting married in. This gown would look amazing in a church setting with a cathedral length veil for added drama.
Molly would suit all body shapes, and the plunging neckline would particularly suit a smaller bust. Its full skirt and belt detail will give the illusion of a small waist, so apple and pear shapes will particularly love it!
Luna is ALL about the sparkle! If you are looking for a statement dress with a modern twist, then this is the dress for you! Perfect for a grand castle wedding where you can really bring the glamour. Again, this dress would work all year round, but when sunlight hits this sparkle, something special happens! With its square neckline, this dress suits a larger bust and a lady with some curves!
If there was ever a dress for a destination wedding, this would be it! With a stunning glass train and less material than a ball gown to keep you cool, this dress really would be at home at a beach wedding. Due to the crepe fabric, we would suggest this works better for a spring or summer wedding, and for an hourglass or athletic body shape.
This beautiful gown would be perfect for a bride looking to have a rustic or outdoor theme for their wedding day. This gown features delicate spaghetti straps with a beautiful embroidered pattern all the way down to the tip of its long train. Snow White would be a lovely addition to a summer wedding or teamed with a bolero for a winter woodland wedding, and suits all body shapes, although a bride with a larger bust may wish to have a wider strap added at alterations for more support.
If you are looking for a sophisticated bridal look, you should check out our beautiful Tiana! This fitted gown is full of sparkle and glamour. Tiana would suit anyone with an hourglass figure or someone wanting a slimmer, fitted dress. This gown would be perfect for a black-tie wedding, or even as a reception gown if you were looking for a second dress for your wedding!
This stunning ball gown has detachable off-the-shoulder sleeves, giving you two looks in one! This dress would suit most body shapes and would show off the waist line and shoulders very well. This is a gown to be remembered and make a statement with, so this gown would suit an alternative-styled wedding just as much as a grand affair in a stately home!
