A beautiful marriage starts with individually crafted Wedding Rings. That’s what we whole-heartedly believe at Custom & Co. where Jewellery Goldsmiths are found in-store carefully crafting rings for a lifetime of wear.
As we head towards the removal of Wedding guest restrictions, many happy couples are finally getting back to progressing their wedding day dreams and starting the process of choosing Wedding rings.
Ben Wells Founder & Head Jewellery Goldsmith of Custom & Co. shares the merits of investing in individually crafted rings no matter how simple the Wedding Ring style you choose.
One of the questions I am asked most often than any other – is a custom-made Wedding Ring worth the investment if I don’t want a unique design?
And my answer; This will depend on your priority. Take time to reflect on this question. Is your priority to have rings which will last a lifetime? Or is price your priority right now?
Having worked crafting, caring for and repairing jewellery for decades in the London Jewellery capital Hatton Garden and beyond, I can honestly say I have got to know the Wedding Ring offering across the market very well. And when it comes to choosing Wedding Rings my choice would be an individually crafted ring each and every time. Here is why;
1. Matching materials & design to your lifestyle matters
The choice of materials and design of your Wedding Ring can affect not only how your ring looks over the course of it’s wear, but the state of repair it will keep, your every day comfort… even your skin health. (You will be surprised how many people get dermatitis through daily wear of a Wedding ring)
The materials used in jewellery pieces all have differing properties, which means they match different lifestyles/people in varying degrees. Getting an inappropriate material for you can wear away at an existing engagement ring, can cause irritation and discomfort or could leave you with a ring which you very quickly find needs costly repair or care.
Not only the materials, but the design features are also important - even simple ones like the profile of the band (something you may have thought was just a matter of taste) can make a large difference to your comfort and the repair of the ring on an item being worn every day like a Wedding ring.
The beauty of individually made rings is that your choice is endless so whatever the right ring choice for you, you will be able to have it.
The Custom & Co. ‘perfect matching’ consultation is designed to get to know each customer individually, so that we can provide expert advice developed by professional goldsmiths on what ring best suits you & your lifestyle circumstances.
We don’t have sales - persons with limited stock to sell, so our advice is genuine and your best-suited ring will always be available without compromise.
2. The quality of the build
Individually crafted rings are formed from solid metal sheets/bars. The structure is sturdy and suits the foundations required for the decades of daily impact and wear that Wedding Rings endure.
This same quality simply isn’t found in mass-produced jewellery of the high-street. This type of large scale production is done by machine, with hollow metal structures and weak design features focused on cost-efficiency.
As time goes on a hollow structure subject to daily impact and wear doesn’t stand up. And sometimes the sad truth is that the ring can’t be repaired due to this poor design and quality or isn’t worth repairing.
As a provider of trusted on-site Jewellery repair services, we interact with many couples who are sadly left in the situation of needing to replace their sentimental ring or live without a wedding ring - sadly tucking their ring and the memories and meaning it has, away in a jewellery box never to be worn.
3. Good Value
The price of individually crafted rings should not be compared to those on the mass-produced wedding ring market as it is not a like-for-like comparison. The different structure of a ring for example the hollow metal bands and subsequent different metal weights mean they are just incomparable.
But when you look at the long-term investment of your wedding rings you will find much better value in an individually crafted ring. The superior quality means less professional input is likely to be required over the lifetime of the ring.
At Custom & Co. our rings even come with a lifetime manufacturers guarantee. This includes a regular professional inspection of your ring. Our Goldsmith’s will give your ring a thorough inspection & recommend any professional service required which is important to prevent future costly damage such as the loss of precious stones.
