It’s your wedding day, and you want to look your absolute best! Aimee Hobbs of Aimee Hobbs Makeup has been speaking with us about some insider tips and tricks for enhancing your natural beauty.
When it comes to makeup, you want your wedding day look to be all about you. So take your time and plan your makeup, and make sure it’s what you want.
Think about what type of look you’re going for: do you want a bold lip? Or maybe something more natural. Maybe a little bronzer will suit your skin tone better than foundation. Do some research on different products and techniques so that when it comes time for trial runs with friends or even professional artists, they can help guide you on what’s best for the look that suits your style best!
Think about how the makeup will work with lighting: if there are windows at the wedding venue’s reception area, then consider having lighter colours as little accents here and there rather than full-on face-painting (which ended up looking great under lights but not so much in bright sunlight). If there aren’t any windows nearby where guests will be eating their meals or dancing, then go wild with those bright colours!
Do not fake tan your face before the big day, as this can cause patches in your makeup.
One of the best tips if you want to look your best on your wedding day is to drink lots of water. Not only will it keep you hydrated and give you a natural glow, but dehydration can also make you look tired and worn out. Drinking plenty of water before the big day can help replenish moisture in the skin and make it appear more youthful.
A makeup trial is an important part of any wedding prep. It’s a time to make sure you’re happy with how your makeup artist will look on your big day, and also to get comfortable with the process. A good tip is to schedule your makeup trial at least 2 weeks before your wedding day. This is important because it allows you ample time for last-minute tweaking.
Another great thing about having a makeup trial? You’ll be able to get used to wearing foundation and lipstick (if that’s what you’re going for). This may sound silly, but it’ll help give you confidence when getting ready in front of family members and friends who are helping out with getting dressed on the day of the ceremony—and trust us: when nerves kick in during these moments, having something familiar like a foundation can help ease some anxieties.
It’s a wedding! People cry, people sweat, and people will, inevitably, be dancing. So what do you do? You wear waterproof makeup so that no matter what happens to your face on your big day, you’ll still look fabulous! Top tip: If there are tears, dab your makeup, do not wipe.
Because your foundation serves as the foundation for your makeup look, it’s critical that you find one that matches your skin tone. Whether you have a lighter or darker skin tone, make sure you can use a foundation that matches.
The most popular foundation brands we tend to use on brides are MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation and Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter. For a more dewy and natural base, we use Mac Face and Body or Maybelline Dream Radiant Liquid Foundation.
Always cleanse, tone, and moisturise to prep your skin the morning of your wedding day before your makeup artist arrives to ensure your skin will look its best.
Whatever you do, choose a lipstick or balm you feel comfortable with. If you feel comfortable and confident, it will show on your face. The result? A more relaxed bride!
If you are not confident in your choice of colour, it will make your photos look unnatural and awkward because of the stress of trying to look happy but feeling like a fish out of water. Choose a shade that goes well with your wedding dress so that everything blends together effortlessly (and with confidence) for those all-important wedding shots. It is always best to go for a lip gloss on the day, as in black and white photos it can add dimension to your lips. We always apply a lip liner, lipstick, and lip gloss on top to help the lip colour stay for longer.
I would always recommend purchasing the lip products used in your makeup trial, as you will need to reapply throughout the day. That is why we sell a range of lip liners, lipsticks, and lip glosses in store.

I would recommend having a little bag of essentials that you or a bridesmaid can keep close so that you can top up your make-up throughout the day, mainly before photos and the evening ceremony.
