Creating a realistic budget for a dress before you go dress shopping ensures that you will not fall in love with a dress only to discover that it is way out of your price range. Before you begin, let the bridal boutique know what your budget is and whether this is solely for the dress, or should include accessories and alterations. They will be able to work with you to find the style you want while staying within your budget.
We would advise you have your dress ordered a minimum of 12 months before your wedding date, or even longer than that if you can. Dresses can take 6-9 months to be hand made, but with the pandemic and ongoing, global shipping delays and alterations to consider, the more time you have between point of order and the wedding, the better. If you have less time than this until your wedding day, speak to your boutique about off-the-peg options.
The first step in finding the perfect wedding dress is determining the best dress shape for your body type. You may have a style in mind, but experiment with different styles to see what works best for your figure. Frequently, a bride’s dream dress is not the style she began looking for. The dress assistant will be able to advise you on which styles will look best on your body type.
When shopping for gowns, keep the venue and theme in mind. The last thing you want is for your wedding gown to clash with the rest of your ensemble. A large, heavy ball gown may be inappropriate for a beach wedding.
Keep your entourage to a minimum.
Think carefully about how many people you plan to take shopping with you. One or two people who you can trust and will give you honest feedback is enough, as conflicting opinions will make you second guess yourself. It is also fun to keep it a surprise for as many people as possible on the wedding day.
